Traditionally, the hearth was the heart of the home—a place where people gathered to share stories, offer support, and build connections. It served as a space for warmth, comfort, and community. Granite, known for its enduring strength and resilience, symbolizes the steadfast foundation families and communities need.
At its core, Granite Hearth is committed to nurturing community connections that empower members to cultivate robust social networks, enhance their marketable skills, and pursue rewarding careers within their communities. Our research has pinpointed three key barriers hindering these connections: STEM Exposure, In-person Engagement, and Digital Equity. To advance our mission, Granite Hearth will tackle these challenges through the following strategic focus areas:
Exposure to science equips individuals with the tools to understand fundamental truths and engage in a rapidly changing workforce. Granite Hearth is committed to increasing access to STEM education and experiences, particularly for rural youth. We also develop research-informed practices to guide the design of our programs and initiatives, ensuring they are effective and impactful.
Young people thrive in environments that foster physical, face-to-face interactions, such as youth sports and other communal activities. Granite Hearth expands opportunities for youth to engage in these enriching in-person experiences, strengthening relationships and community bonds.
Unlike the traditional hearth of the past, today's hearth is often digital. However, the digital divide continues to affect rural and low-income families. Granite Hearth will work to bridge the digital divide by ensuring equitable access to digital tools and fostering connections in the modern, digital world.
Granite Hearth is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
